Leeds Alternative Comics Fair!

I like Leeds. There are people here who do interesting stuff. You know, not just get drunk and plan to invade the moon but get drunk, plan to invade the moon and then build afterburners and design calorie-balanced moon-rations. It's all a bit awesome.

I say this because a couple of the Leeds small press community have gone and set up a small press comics convention! So, because of Hugh 'Shug' Raine and Steve Tillotson's awesome endeavouring, on the 18th september you'll find some of Leeds' finest small press creators and myself in a bar in Leeds city centre. Come and join us. Is obligatory I heard.

And now, back to commissions and prep for Lincoln

Festival of Sins, Lincoln and Leeds

by geof on 2010 August 12 at 10:13 pm

Ah joy! had an afternoon mooching about in london yesterday and found that the british library has an "old maps" exhibition! Teeheehee! Tiny galleons-fighting-cherub-faces joy! Anyhoo, what? Oh yes, with the science easing up a little I'm finding time to catch up with commissions (you know who you are!) and grasp the thistle that is my web presence (it's now been a couple of years on comicpress and the back end is suffering somewhat – as such I'm probably going to have re-immerse myself in jargon and give it a good clean to see if whatever's awry is due to my host or word/comicpress or both or whatever).

This saturday evening I'm once again joining the Festival of sins  for a night of debauch … well in my case more drawing and chatting and observing debauch, but nonetheless, debauch! Not to be confused with Debach. Oh no.

Today however I'm designing new embroidered badges for the Lincoln steampunk weekend – 'tis nearly exactly a month away and in a spirit of "not flailing as much" I'm trying to be plan ahead more. Plans are a little fluid still at this stage (literally: i keep trying to stop myself from buying a larger electric urn from ebay to fuel my tea-y love) but I have a hunch that the stall and the bazaar are going to be really rather lovely this year. I've said too much, things must be made before I can make such assertions.

Following on from Lincoln is the Leeds Alternative Press Fair: Steve (banal pig comics) and Hugh (reet comics) have organised a bundle of local small press guys for an afternoon event in the heart of Leeds. It's looking really good, I loosely know a few of the guys from other events and I've blogged about a couple of them before. They've also kindly offered me space to comics-it-up, so if you're free on 18th september come and hang out!

Last but not least is a tiny gem of steampunk rudeness – the steampunk vibrator-pistol. I'm almost dismayed at not having made one first … on the flip side I now can get on with drawing more nuns and still own one so it's sort of a win-win scenario!

The First First Tea Company Enlistment Fair

by geof on 2010 August 6 at 10:22 am

What am i up to this weekend? Well there's the Unity Day fundraiser on saturday night or Ms Orange's Beach party, so saturday's most definitely covered, but on sunday I'll be in Halifax signing comics. I say "signing comics", And by that I mean the original plan was that I'd come along and sign and natter while Big D's Bike Show went on in the courtyard of the Piece Hall, but, well, it got out of hand. Tea was mentioned. Then the TeaAndCake guys were mentioned. And then it got a bit silly ..

So, this will be the First First Tea Company Enlistment Fair! Tests of tea-based courage and tenacity will re-echo about the shop while i sign copies of me latest outpouring "fetishman #11: the brown issue" and everyone drinks a lot of tea! And a new poster version of Tea-y Kitchener will be unveiled!

8th August 2010
The First First Tea Company Enlistment Fair
11am til 4pm
Legacy Comics, Halifax, West Yorkshire
Part of Big D’s Bike Show: £3 entry  (Conc. Free)

http://www.facebook.com/geof.banyard#!/event.php?eid=137044156321722

If you're about then please do head over, it's a small financial contribution to get in to the bike show but i think it's free if you're not staying for less than half an hour or so. If not I may catch you at any of the following:

14th August 2010
Festival of Sins
Purple Turtle, Camden

10th-12th September 2010
UK Steampunk Weekend
Lincoln

18th September 2010
Leeds Alternative Comics Fair
Nation of shopkeepers, Leeds

and because i keep failing to post about these "other things" i have on the go, here's some links to whet yer appetite:

ps/ and a quick sorry for the irregularity of the webcomics recently, having updated to the latest version of wordpress or comicpress io can definitely say that something is "awry" but sadly I'm a fresh install away from fixing it. that said, there's still a new comic each week … just not quite a clockwork. Hey ho, I was rebuilding it all anyway …

Foreplay! now!

And in the spirit of things I've been meaning to say:

Foreplay. No, it's not just a fun pastime, is is now also a UK magazine! About golf! Okay, that's a lie, it's a new sexual-discussion magazine that has taken up the lube-slicked reins that Forum magazine's departure has left.

"Pish!" you sneer contemptuously "This isn't news to us!" Well yes, but do you remember that strip i had in the last ever Forum magazine? Well Foreplay has kindly asked if I'd like to contribute a monthly 2-page fetishman strip to their own fair publication! Yesh! Yet more hot fetishamn action if that's your sort of thing!

… and now all I can think of is whether aftplay can be a word too … cos it won't mean what it should mean …

LFCC and dv8fest

There is an empire of stuff i need to tell you guys about, and posts will be forthcoming i assure you, but first things first:

this weekend the doctorgeof/fetishman stall will be running at 2 events. Yep, i've finally cloned myself.

16th – 18th July 2010 – dv8fest, Park Inn, York, UK
17th-18th July 2010 – London film and comic con, Earls Court, London, UK

Okay that's a bit of a lie, I'm running the stall at dv8fest for just the friday 16th and saturday 17th (which if you aren't aware of is a new goth festival! which i drew some goths for! should be a hoot, line up is jam packed with bands I'd be tempted to see. that said I've twisted me ankle so i may sleep through a big chunk of the evening's activities)

Mavis, dear blessed Mavis, will be running a lean stall on saturday 17th at LFCC, but after a short train journey from york to london i'll be joining him with the rest of the charabang for sunday 18th. It seems a bit mad but then hey both looked like good events. Hell, LFCC even has the Shatner.

And if we're really lucky there may be more than 2 pop-up cards made by this point.
