A question for yous guys (vote for a poster thing!)

2010-10-29-posters20101023krak

I've had a few people ask if I would sell an a1 size (read as "mahoosive" or 594 x 841 mm) version of the "Kill your velocity! Not an air kraken!" poster. I've looked into it and the only practical solution is to print a hundred or so, but being small press it's a bit of an outlay, so I was thinking why not put it to the vote?

THE VOTE!
If you'd be interested in a copy of the a1 "Kill your velocity!" poster (hopefully shown in the image attached to this post) then all you need do is email me at geofbanyard at gmail dot com with, well a contactable return email address and text similar to "hell yeah, I'd love one of those a1 kraken-y velocity-y poster things". Voting doesn't oblige you to buy a copy. You don't have to pay anything at this point, it's really just a "gauging interest" thing.

If enough of you want it I'll get it printed. I was thinking of selling them for £15, but if you've voted for it you can obtain it for £10 as that seems fair. If I don't get enough votes then I'll shelve this project for now and we can just wait around until enough people are interested.

Anyhoo, just returned from London Film and Comic Con where I had a lovely weekend enlisting people in the First Tea Company, nattering with Khaos Comix and Fera and peering at celebrities. Back to Leeds tomorrow and then Derby "state of the art" tattoo fest and then dv8fest and then mcm Manchester! Busy July are busy!

“In The Event Of Peril!”

Some ideas just have to wait. It's a shame, and you really want to do them, but something else always crops up. And maybe they mature a little and improve, but maybe you should have just done them.

So anyway, I've been dying to do a fake zeppelin-passenger safety leaflet for ages: something akin to the laminated flight safety things that only novice flyers and the truly bored look at, and that certain ladies and gentleman are required to imitate for your viewing pleasure ("the doors are located here, here and here"). And to make it work properly you need to stick to some rules and flagrantly break others: there can't be much text because it's intended for an international audience, but then there are the tiny footnotes that are usually only in a couple of languages. So there have to be some large obviously wordless bits because other wise it won't look right, but because it's trying to replicate a slightly pompous Victorian feel it needs lots of words. And specifically only in English because it needs to replicate a slightly pompous Victorian feel.

Anyway, I finally did it and I'm dead excite by it! It's a mahoosive a1 piece (because if you need a nice portable set of safety instructions what's less portable than a very large piece of paper?) entitled "In the event of peril".

And I kind of can't post it online because no screen is big enough to see the detail and the detail looks a bit odd without the rest of the poster. So you've got two options, I've posted an image and some detail on the islandofdoctorgeof but in truth the best place to see it at the moment is the Steampunk Great Exhibition at Kew Bridge Steam Museum where it'll be until the end of august.

Yeah, sorry for the update fail on the webcomics at the mo, trust me when I say many useful things are being perpetrated, such as the "in the event of peril" zeppelin safety posters being ordered, but yeah must get the updates fixed again soon.

Anyhoo, in the mean time, I got an email from a man called Gavin after the MCM xpo in London and he and the "Work In Progress" webcomic peeps (a beautiful thing in its own right) may be heading up for Thought Bubble, but while i was searching the internet for said webcomic I came across the Art Box: Work In Progress. And as such lost a chunk of time staring at this thing of wonder: roughs transforming into final work in a hundred fascinating ways.

watching this appear is delightful: http://www.artboxforum.com/wip/archives/119

Tables d1 and d2 in the small press comic village with a big pile of awesome people … ah fuck it, bleedingcool describes it best:

"MCM London Expo Starts Friday. Will You End Up On Big Brother? http://bcool.bz/lg0ZLu"

As twittered by @bleedingcool, a lovely little comic-y news feed.
